Immanuel Explorers enjoy nature and history at Arbor Day Farm
July 25, 2025
In June, a group of Immanuel Explorers – comprised of residents, staff, and guests – headed out for a two-day trip to Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City. The plan was simple: relax, explore, and enjoy some time together in nature.
The Explorers traveled by motor coach from Omaha and checked into Lied Lodge, a cozy, eco-friendly spot surrounded by trees. While the original itinerary was packed with outdoor activities, the weather had other plans. Rain rolled in, but the group didn’t miss a beat. Staff quickly adjusted, swapping in indoor options that kept everyone engaged and entertained.
Among the highlights of the weekend was a tour of the Arbor Lodge Mansion. Once home to J. Sterling Morton, the founder of Arbor Day, the mansion is considered a historic and architectural gem. Explorers also enjoyed a private wine tasting and education session, a special presentation of memories of his own fairy tale wedding at Arbor Lodge Mansion, by Grand Lodge resident Allen Beerman, hearty chef-prepared meals, and an evening of campfire s’mores and laughter.
June Kent, a resident of Immanuel Courtyard in Omaha, summed it up best:
“I enjoyed everything so much. (It was) lots of fun – no grumpy people – tons of laughs. It was terrific, and I will go on every (trip) I can ‘til my time is up!”
This trip reflects what makes the Immanuel Explorers program so special – each journey is thoughtfully curated to offer older adults the chance to experience new places, deepen friendships, and enjoy life’s adventures without the hassle of planning.
While the program includes longer multi-day trips, like the 2024 adventure to Chicago, Illinois, this shorter two-day getaway was the perfect option for residents looking to explore closer to home.
“Not every resident wants to commit to a long trip, and that’s okay,” said Cameo Rogers, Immanuel Corporate Life Enrichment Manager. “Trips like Arbor Day Farm offer a fun, accessible way to experience the joy of travel – without being gone too long. It’s ideal for residents who want a little adventure without the packing stress.”
The Arbor Day Farm getaway is just one example of how Immanuel supports vibrant, active retirement living through meaningful experiences. Whether traveling across the Midwest or exploring hidden gems in our own backyard, Immanuel Explorers trips are designed to foster connection, spark curiosity, and create lasting memories.
