Life’s most meaningful moments often happen unexpectedly — like the thrill of feeling a tug on a fishing line or the peaceful calm of gliding across a sunlit lake.
Recently, Immanuel hosted four boating and fishing adventures for community residents and Immanuel Pathways’ participants at Walnut Creek Lake in Papillion, Nebraska. Partnering with Live Well. Go Fish., a nonprofit dedicated to outdoor recreation, these outings provided everyone who attended a unique experience on the water, fostering adventure and connection.
Based in Wahoo, Nebraska, Live Well. Go Fish. offers boating and fishing opportunities for seniors, youth, veterans, people with disabilities, and hospice patients. Their mission aligns with Immanuel’s focus on providing enriching experiences that go beyond typical retirement living. These excursions give residents and participants a chance to stay active and engaged, enjoying the beauty of nature in a way that is accessible to everyone.
For many residents, these outings are more than just a fun day out: they remind them that age or physical limitations don’t have to stop them from enjoying the activities they love. Adaptive equipment provided by Live Well. Go Fish. makes it possible for residents to fish and boat, rekindling a passion for the outdoors.
“These outings are so important to our residents and participants. It gives them such a sense of purpose,” said Cameo Rogers, Immanuel Corporate Life Enrichment Manager. “They love being outside in nature and having the sunshine on your face. There’s nothing quite like it, and being able to get on the water, to actually have that experience of holding the fishing rod in your hand, just nothing compares.”
The impact of these adventures is lasting, creating memories and strengthening bonds within Immanuel’s communities. Our partnership with Live Well. Go Fish. is about more than recreation — it’s about empowering residents and participants to continue exploring, learning, and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures.
