Virginia “Gini” Thomas has been fond of William Shakespeare's plays and poetry since high school. She has performed in several local theatrical presentations of Shakespeare’s plays.

While a resident at Arboretum Village in Omaha, Gini has presented numerous programs about The Bard, his works, and his life in Elizabethan England. On April 24, Gini invited residents and staff at the Arboretum to attend a special celebration of Shakespeare’s 460th birthday.

During this hour-long event, attendants could browse the material on tables around the Education Room. Each table had a single theme, such as: Who was Shakespeare? (To examine different paintings of the Bard), in what genres did he write? (To view the tragedies, comedies, history plays, and verse he composed), and Where were Shakespeare’s plays performed? (To get a close look at the Globe Theatre).

A very popular table offered cookies, candies, and nuts for those present to enjoy. Over 60 participants attended, listening to Elizabethan music and availing themselves of the handouts on various topics. Gini was in Elizabethan clothing, answering any questions the residents and staff might have.

A grand time was had by all, including methinks even William Shakespeare, who wrote: “A light heart lives long.”  (Love’s Labour’s Lost, v, ii)
