Philanthropy is part of life for senior residents of Immanuel’s The Landing at Williamsburg Village and Yankee Hill Village. On September 26, retired residents worked with staff and partners at next door neighbor, HyVee, to “Stuff the Bus” in support of The Food Bank of Lincoln.
Senior residents and generous Williamsburg HyVee shoppers helped to “stuff” a Landing transportation bus with food and household supplies for families in need. In this 10th year of supporting the cause, 2,126 pounds of food and supplies were collected as well as $2,629 collected from residents and staff of The Landing and Yankee Hill Village.
This isn’t the first time Immanuel residents have opened their hearts to the community. Landing resident regularly donate church service offerings and host collection drives to support local non-profit organizations. Yankee Hill Village residents recently crafted and donated blankets to Project Linus. And Immanuel has yearly supported The Walk to End Alzheimer’s through participating teams, resident donations and sponsorships.
Connection, Community and Service are three of Immanuel’s nine guiding principles of their newly unveiled Thrive by Immanuel wellness and life enrichment program for residents.
“Connecting with the community is important, especially as we age, which is why we made it a pillar of resident programming,” said Eric Gurley, Immanuel president and CEO. “Thrive by Immanuel encourages residents to be healthy in mind, body and spirit. The more we connect and share our time and talents, the more we feel fulfilled on a grand scale.”
