Residents shared memories of filling up their cars for as little as 19 to 25 cents a gallon, a price that might be hard for younger generations to imagine today.
As the conversation unfolded, residents recalled cruising around town on just a few dollars, competing gas stations lowering prices during "gas wars," and even stretching every penny when money was tight. One resident remembered being able to fill up for just $1 and drive all evening, while another reflected on earning 99 cents an hour at their first job.
